A new meaning to working out
Posted on 23/11/09

Research shows that this outdoor activity boosts energy, builds confidence, relieves stress and leaves you feeling fitter. It sets you a goal – and it’s free.

What is it? It’s a BTCV Green Gym, the award-winning scheme that’s good for you and good for the environment. There’s no lycra or running machine involved, yet an hour of moderate physical activity provided by a Green Gym can burn almost a third more calories than a step aerobics class.

Green Gym sessions get you up to speed with hands-on practical projects in the great outdoors, from battling with brambles to building a wall. Sessions are run on weekday or weekend mornings and generally last half a day.

After some warm-up exercises you learn how to use the various tools, then work at your own pace with plenty of breaks for tea and chat. Sessions end with cool-down exercises and a sense of satisfaction in a job well done.
