South East England has mile upon mile of accessible rides, on routes delving deep into peaceful countryside. Here’s a route to the B&Bs where horse and rider will feel at home.
Riding on The Ridgeway National Trail
With superb views from the saddle, and the sound of horses’ hooves for company, rural rides are hard to beat as a means of exploring new territory.
South East England’s magnificent countryside ticks all the boxes for riders and horses keen to enjoy a change of scene.
For riders of all levels of experience there are some brilliant opportunities for on and off road hacking on the superb rights of way networks of the region. For hearty days out in wonderful surroundings, you can take your pick from a variety of waymarked circular routes with horsebox parking and horse-friendly pubs en route.
If you really feel at home in the saddle, you could tackle one of the long distance trails like the South Downs Way or The Ridgeway. These are both almost entirely off road and take in some of the country’s most uplifting scenery.
Well-placed B&Bs with fields or stabling ensure that after a day of exploration, both horse and rider get a good night’s sleep.
Our sister website, Rural Ways, has a list of accommodation for riders with horses and a browse-or-search Route Finder for all levels of equestrian rides.
If yours is more of a stay-at-home horse, the Riding Holidays section could be just what you’re looking for.
