Cinderellas of the Soil: Digging for Victory on the Sussex Downs
Posted on 12/01/10
The Land Girls: Cinderellas of the Soil tells the triumphant story of the 200,000 women who left their pre-war lives to learn milking, rat catching, threshing and tractor driving as members of the Women’s Land Army, whose heroic efforts sustained our farming industry during World War II.
The exhibition includes a special focus on the Land Girls who trained at Plumpton Agricultural College and lived and worked on the Sussex Downs. Catch it at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery http://www.brighton.virtualmuseum.info/exhibitions/thelandgirls.asp until 14th March. Admission is free.
