Observe and enjoy birds, beasts, bugs and flowers with your local wildlife experts.
COUNTRYSIDE 2011 celebrates the wonderful variety of our native wildlife, one of the greatest pleasures of the countryside.
Nature reserves managed by the RSPB and by wildlife trusts in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire & Oxfordshire, Hampshire & the Isle of Wight, Kent, Surrey and Sussex are inspiring places to start. Some are secret and secluded; others boast such facilities as visitor centres; all are fascinating and informative.
The National Trust, Forestry Commission and Natural England also play a key role in managing nature reserves and other special habitats which offer a wonderful window on the world of wildlife and help preserve our natural heritage for future generations.
Visit their websites to find out more about their many conservation projects, the benefits of their various membership schemes and to check on their forthcoming events, designed to open our eyes to the magic of the local flora and fauna.
The COUNTRYSIDE 2011 fortnight of discovery provided a taste of what these organisations will have in store: from bat walks and bug hunts to bird and badger watches, wildlife workshops, photographic safaris or fully-fledged wildlife festivals, there will be plenty of pleasures in store.
