Kent Country Tours at the Touch of a Button
Posted on 12/04/10
If you want to get straight to the heart of Kent’s finest countryside, simply follow one of the county’s four Country Tour motoring routes.
Each of the four circular tour is between 50 and 70 miles (80-122kms) long and you can join them at any point. Any one of them can be driven in a day, but there are so many attractions en route that you’ll want to take longer.
Several trails for walking, cycling or horse riding also cross the routes of the Tours, so there’s every reason to park the car, stretch your legs and explore. Kent has over 4,000 miles (6,800 kms) of public rights of way across some of England’s loveliest countryside. You won’t be disappointed.
Here’s a brief summary of the four tours. Each is clearly signposted with its own distinctive brown and white road signs throughout, so there’s no danger of getting lost.
The Heart of Kent Tour, symbolised by Kent’s Invicta Horse, follows leafy country lanes through arable farmland and areas of woodland. It provides wonderful views of the Greensand Ridge and the North Downs, both are Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
A tree symbolises The East Kent Tour, which winds through the beautiful countryside and picturesque villages of the North Downs, south of Canterbury.

The symbol for The Romney Marsh & Rye Tour is bulrushes. The signs are your guide through one of the most contrasting and un-explored areas of England: wild countryside, open marshland and arable farmland.
The High Weald Tour uses oast houses as its symbol to take you through Kentish Wealden towns and villages over open rolling landscapes with extensive areas of woodland, hop fields, gardens and orchards.
To plan your outing, download an e-brochure with details of the tours, including maps. The brochure also highlights the key walking, cycling and horse riding routes along the way.
