Our COUNTRYSIDE 2011 Event Directory features all sorts of wonderful woodland activities and events. Here are more bright ideas for making the most of your time in the woods.
As the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity, the Woodland Trust is a mine of bright ideas that add interest and inspiration to every walk in the woods.
The children’s Nature Detectives section of their website has 100s of games, activities and ideas for free days out to ensure your next family trip is action-packed fun. You can download free sheets and booklets to keep the kids busy with a huge range of absorbing activities, from ladybird dominos to hunting animal tracks, a bumble bee adventure or making a kite.
Grown ups enjoy their full share of the entertainment, armed with information on such subjects as how to take photographs, spot species, pack the perfect picnic or hunt for ancient trees.
The Trust itself has more than 1,000 woodland sites in the UK, of which over 200 are in the South East. All of them are free to visit. Simply search the Find a Wood section of the website to find a choice of woods near you. Each entry presents plenty of information including pictures, interactive maps and more.
