Special Treat for Garden-Lovers on 24th & 25th April
Posted on 19/04/10
The Garden Show in Spring at Firle Place is an excellent reason to visit the East Sussex countryside this weekend. It’s also a rare opportunity to explore the 18th-century Secret Gardens of Firle Place.
Sixteen years ago the first Garden Show in Spring was held at Stansted Park in Hampshire to showcase new and talented businesses at the cutting edge of gardening. Now in its third year at Firle Place, near Lewes in East Sussex, the show still presents businesses carefully selected for their quality and innovation. The hundred exhibition stands will include specialist nurseries, garden designers and suppliers, artists, sellers of the best country foods and wines, gift items and well-being therapists.
This is also a rare chance to visit ‘The Secret Gardens of Firle Place ‘ which are only open this weekend in April, and one day in the autumn, in support of the National Gardens Scheme. Visitors to the Show will have the opportunity to visit the 20 acre Pleasure Grounds, a woodland garden dating back to the 18th century. The Pleasure Grounds are currently being restored in the spirit of the original ‘Cabinets de Verde’: hidden woodland glades, with different planting themes in each area. Philip Fenech, Head Gardener , will also be conducting three tours daily over the weekend to explain the techniques and skills needed to develop this very special and beautiful lost valley. Limited tickets for the tours are available on arrival.
