The Nightingale
The unmistakable sound of this renowned little bird was first reported on Monday 4th April, one of the earliest reports of nightingales on the reserve for several years.
Samantha Stokes, RSPB Spokesperson, said: “Swallows and house martins have been seen hunting for insects across the brooks for the past couple of weeks, but it is nightingales which are the most eagerly awaited for at this time of year. It is wonderful to walk around the nature trail listening to their melodious song.”
Pulborough Brooks runs a variety of events and guided walks where visitors can listen to the delights of birdsong. Dawn Chorus walks are taking place in April and May and the reserve will again be hosting their popular Nightingale Festival over the bank holiday weekend of 29 April – 1 May, which is dedicated to the renowned songster.
