Time for a ramble on the Hampshire Strawberry Trail

One of the best ways to discover the Hamble Valley on Hampshire’s coastline is to walk the self-guided Strawberry Trail taking in beautiful countryside and the attractions on the Hamble pennisular.

The circular trail leads from Botley to Hamble incorporating Royal Victoria Country Park, Netley and Bursledon. The walk, of around 15 miles is of easy to moderate walking, takes in woodland, farmland, Manor Farm Country Park, picturesque old villages, attractions and superb views of the River Hamble.
As part of COUNTRYSIDE 2011, the Hamble Valley Heritage Guides will be leading a guided-walk of the Strawberry Trail on Sunday 6th June. The knowledgeable Heritage Guides will provide interesting background information on attractions and snipets of history and quirky facts and tales such as those at Netley Abbey ruins. Much of the trail follows the River Hamble, an important natural area as the mudflat and salt marsh habitats found alongside the river support a number of different plants and animals. The River Hamble also a long history in boats and boat-building, and has been used for ship building and as a Naval anchorage since the 14th century, although is now renowned as a base for recreational boating.
